Life Guard Training - CPR Recertification 1
Southeast Parks & Rec proudly offers lifeguard training classes for all of those looking to get certified or re-certified in this fun and exciting field. Taught by our instructor Michelle, students will learn the necessary skills to become a certified Red Cross Lifeguard. CPR ONLY classes are also offered for those who have current lifeguard certifications but expired CPR.REMINDER LIFEGUARD CLASSES (includes CPR) MUST BE DONE EVERY 2 YEARS, CPR MUST BE DONE EVERY YEAR.Program Info:Lifeguard CPR Re-Certification ONLY:April 5th: 12pm-5pmApril 13th: 12pm-5pmPROGRAM DETAILS*For currently certified lifeguards who need to be RE-Certified ONLY*Lifeguards who were certified or re-certified in CPR in 2024*Proof of lifeguard certification is required day of training*Lakeview Community Center 215 Shore Dr, Brewster, NY, 10509Refunds will not be given if a registrant is unable to show proof of lifeguard certification Re-Certification Classes offered on:Dates: - May 10th-11th (8am-5pm)- June 14th-15th (8am-5pm)Lifeguards who were certified or re-certified in 2023*Proof of lifeguard certification is required day of training*Location TBDRefunds will not be given if a registrant is unable to show proof of lifeguard certification Certification Classes:Dates:- June 6th-9th (time varies)- June 20th-23rd (time varies)-June 27th-30th (time variesProspective Lifeguards who have never been certified*Proof of age is required day of training*Locations VaryRefunds will not be given if a registrant is unable to show proof of IDThis program is for individuals 15 years old and over.INDIVIDUALS MUST SUBMIT PROOF OF AGE/LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION BEFORE PARTICIPATING.TIMES AND LOCATION VARY THROUGHOUT CLASSES, instructor will maintain contact with students so they know where the lessons will take place.If you wish to pay by cash or check please reach out to the Recreation Office Directly LIFEGUARD PRETEST/TEST NOTES:To participate in the Lifeguard Waterfront course, ALL participants must:Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest: Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed), Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs, Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed). Submerge to a depth of 7 - 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.Prerequisite 3: Complete an underwater swimSwim 5 yards, submerge, and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 – 7 feet of water, Resurface and continue to swim another 5 yards. PLEASE NOTE THAT TAKING ANY LIFEGUARD CLASSES IS NOT A GUARANTEE OF EMPLOYMENT WITH SOUTHEAST RECREATION.ALL LIFEGUARDS HAVE TO APPLY SEPARATELY FOR JOBS.NOTE: A NON-Refundable $100 fee is included in registration cost.
